After three weeks, I only received one legitimate submission, the rest were spam-type submissions for things not even related to animals, so I have decided not to do the pet blog carnival. If you have an individual recipe you would like to submit for inidividual publication on my blog, contact me and I'll be happy to do so.

I was looking at some recipes online, and noticed that some of them contained raisins, grapes, chocolate, onions, garlic, avocados, broccoli, dairy products, raw eggs, nutmeg, raw potatos, macadamia nuts and raw meat or fish (although not all in the same recipe, Eew!). These are all no-nos for pet treats, as they can cause a host of ills ranging from diarrhea to death, depending on the amount eaten and the size of the eater. Also, if your recipe includes leaving dough to rise, please be sure to include a warning to take the dough out of the dog's reach. While cooked products are fine, rising dough can wreak havoc on a dog's digestive system. Also, salt, liver and tuna should be used in limited amounts, if at all.

Please indicate in your recipe:
what species it is for
if it is vegan
if it contains pork
if it has a specific purpose (fight bad breath, high protein, low protein, etc.)
any nutritional information (calories, proportion of fat, etc.) is great

This is the blog for preparation of the first edition of the Top Dogs and Cool Cats Pet Care Carnival. Each month we will focus on a different issue of pet care. Emphasis will be on practical articles for the average pet owner. Articles should be well-written, very self-contained, (not a list of links) and already published on your own blog. Only domesticated species will be featured (no sugar gliders, reptiles, monkeys, etc.)

If you do not have a blog, but would like to have an article published, email it to me, and I will publish you as a "guest blogger", with credit of course, on my own blog and then it can be added. (Might be a good way for you to see if blogging is something you would be interested in, if you have not tried it before). If so, email your submission to me at TopDog@AnimalHomeBuddies.com

The first issue will be on recipes for homemade pet treats. For future editions, Ihave had suggestions of: pet safety in the desert; ways to handle problem barking; photos of people who look like their pets; and unusual pet tricks.

Submissions must be by midnight of the first day of each month. I'll want to publish the carnival by the third of each month.
